Happy Ostara & Summer Solstice! There is no better way to celebrate the turning of the season (or just anything!) than with warm, freshly baked bread. Here are a few recipes to make to celebrate and enjoy the changing of the seasons. Hot Cross Buns Frosting:2 cups confectioners' sugar1 tablespoon milk1 cup orange juiceDough:3 cups unsifted flour3/4 cups granulated sugar1 cup evaporated or whole milk1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened1/8 teaspoon salt1 and 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon1/4 teaspoon allspice1 cup raisins (optional)1 cup walnuts (optional)1 package dry yeast1/4 cup hot water (for dissolving the yeast)1 large, well-beaten egg.Instructions: 1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. 2. While the oven is warming, combine all ingredients except yeast, hot water, the egg, and the frosting ingredients and mix well. 3. Dissolve the yeast in the hot water, then add it and the egg to the rest of the mixture. Combine well. Shape into a ball, and place in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. 4. Cover the mixture with a cloth and allow the dough to rise in a warm spot for about an hour, until it has about doubled in size. 5. Shape the dough into round balls about 3 inches across and place them at least 3 inches apart on a lightly greased and floured baking sheet. Place the sheet into the preheated oven. 6. After 5 to 8 minutes of baking, open the oven and use a sharp knife to slash one equal-armed cross into each bun about 3/4 of an inch deep. Allow the knife to pry open the slashes slightly so they will be less likely to bake themselves closed again. 7. Return the buns to the oven and allow them to bake another 15 to 20 minutes, or until the buns are a nice brownish gold. 8. While the buns are baking, combine the frosting ingredients and beat them to a smooth, even consistency. When the buns are done, take them out of the oven and, while they're still hot, drizzle the frosting onto them.   Traditional Lemon Feast Bread Ingredients: 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest (zest from 1 lemon) 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (285 grams) 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 3/4 teaspoon salt* 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar (250 grams) 3/4 cup butter softened* (155 grams) 3 eggs (large)3/4 cup milk I used 2%) (180 grams) *If you use salted butter then use a pinch of salt. GLAZE:   4 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice (I used 1 medium lemon) 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Instructions: 1. Pre-heat oven to 350° (180° celsius), grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. 2. In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and 1 1/4 cups sugar, add the softened butter and with a pastry blender blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the lemon zest. 3. In a small bowl add eggs and beat lightly with a fork add milk and mix until combined, then pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir just until flour is moistened. 4. In prepared loaf pan add the batter and bake for 1 - 1 1/4 hours (or until toothpick comes out clean). Cool then move to a wire rack. GLAZE 1. In a small pot add the 4 1/2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of sugar, over medium heat stirring constantly bring to a boil until thickened. 2. With a pastry brush, brush syrup over the top of the bread. Enjoy!   Traditional Ostara Bread Ingredients: 3 cups all-purpose flour  1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast  1/4 cup honey or maple syrup  1/2 cup warm milk or plant-based alternative  1/4 cup melted butter or coconut oil 2 eggs (or flax eggs for a vegan alternative) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon  1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup dried fruit (such as raisins, cranberries, or chopped apricots) 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Instructions: 1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and honey. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. 2. Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and cinnamon. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until a sticky dough forms. 3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. 4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size. 5. Incorporate Fruits & Nuts: Gently knead in dried fruit and nuts, ensuring even distribution. 6. Shape & Second Rise: Shape the dough into a round loaf or braid it for extra symbolism. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rise for another 30-40 minutes. 7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top of the bread with a little melted butter or an egg wash for a golden finish. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. 8. Cool & Enjoy: Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy with butter, honey, or as part of your Ostara feast.

Ah, Beltane! The very air feels different as we approach this vibrant festival, doesn't it? Here in Windsor, with the spring blossoms in full swing, it's easy to imagine our ancestors welcoming the return of life and light with such joyful exuberance. Let's delve into the history and magic of Beltane, and explore how we can connect with its potent energy today. Kindling the Fires: A Journey Through Beltane's History Beltane, also known as May Day, marks the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Deeply rooted in Celtic traditions, it was a time of great celebration, signifying the peak of spring and the burgeoning fertility of the land. The very name "Beltane" is believed to derive from the Celtic god Belenus, associated with the sun and light, and the Old Irish word "teine," meaning fire – literally "bright fire."   For our ancestors, Beltane was a crucial festival. It marked the movement of livestock to summer pastures, a practice often accompanied by rituals to ensure their health and fertility. Central to the celebrations were bonfires – large, communal fires that were believed to purify and protect. People would leap over these flames for good luck, and livestock would be driven through the smoke for cleansing and safeguarding.Homes and cattle were adorned with yellow May flowers, symbolizing the sun's power.    The "Maypole" is another enduring symbol of Beltane.This tall pole, decorated with colorful ribbons, was the focus of lively dances.The intertwining ribbons represented the coming together of male and female energies, celebrating the fertility of the earth and the potential for new life.  Beltane Today: Rekindling the Ancient Spark While the large communal bonfires might be less common in our modern lives, the spirit of Beltane continues to resonate. Many contemporary Pagans, Wiccans, and those drawn to earth-based spirituality still celebrate this vibrant festival, adapting ancient traditions to fit our modern context.Today, Beltane is often a time to honor the sacred union of the Divine Masculine and Feminine, celebrate fertility in all its forms (not just procreation, but also creativity and new beginnings), and connect with the burgeoning energy of nature. Think of the vibrant green shoots pushing through the earth, the blossoms unfurling, and the palpable sense of life all around us. That's the essence of Beltane!  Celebrating Fertility and Union: Maypole Dance: Dancing around a Maypole with colorful ribbons is a well-known tradition. The pole represents the masculine, and the ribbons the feminine, symbolizing their union and the interconnectedness of life. Braiding ribbons into hair or creating ribbon wreaths can be a personal tribute if a Maypole isn't available. Flower Crowns and Garlands: Flowers are strongly associated with Beltane's energy of life and love.Wearing flower crowns made of seasonal blooms like hawthorn, marigolds, and lilacs honors this.Decorating homes and altars with flowers and greenery is also common.   Handfasting:Beltane has long been associated with sacred unions.Handfasting ceremonies, where couples' hands are tied together with ribbon to symbolize their bond, are often performed. These can be for a year and a day or longer. Connecting with Nature and the Fae: Offerings to the Fae: Beltane is a time when the veil between worlds is believed to be thin, and the Fae are thought to be active. Leaving offerings of milk, honey, fresh bread, or mead outside overnight is a way to seek their favor.Keeping iron or salt nearby is sometimes done for protection.  Gathering Dew:Walking barefoot in the grass at dawn to collect the morning dew is an old tradition believed to bring beauty and good fortune.    Creating Outdoor Altars: Setting up altars outdoors, decorated with flowers, greenery, and symbols of Beltane, helps connect with the energy of the season. Performing Spells and Rituals: Fertility and Love Magic: Beltane is a potent time for spells and rituals focused on fertility, abundance, love, and new beginning    Creating Spell Jars: Making spell jars with herbs, crystals, and intentions related to Beltane themes like self-love, abundance, or happiness.    Ritual Baths: Taking baths infused with herbs and oils associated with Beltane can be a cleansing and preparatory practice.    Other Practices: Making May Baskets: Creating small baskets filled with flowers and treats to leave on neighbors' doorsteps as a gesture of goodwill. Feasting:Sharing meals with seasonal foods like strawberries, fresh greens, and honey. Honoring Deities: Paying homage to deities associated with fertility, love, fire, and the wild aspects of nature.  Personal Reflection: Taking time to meditate on goals and intentions for the coming summer. I have always enjoyed a cup of tea, not just for the taste, but to connect with the spirits and medicine of the herbs. Since day one of opening my shop, I have curated teas you too can ingest their intentions, physically absorbing the herbs' protective and attractive properties, and to shift your energy from the inside out. Here is some history and informative information about tea magic, and taseograpahy.  Tea has long been more than a comforting beverage. Across cultures and spiritual traditions, it has served as a tool to enhance focus, intention, and spiritual connection. In modern witchcraft and magical practice, tea is often incorporated as a medium for intention-setting, meditation, and ritual work, blending the natural properties of herbs with magical focus to create a simple yet powerful form of spiritual practice. Herbal teas, in this context, act as herbal ally medicine, supporting both body and spirit with their energetic properties. Origins and Context In Eastern traditions, tea ceremonies in China and Japan emphasize mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual focus, showing that even the simple act of brewing and drinking can become sacred. Focus on a question or area of life seeking insight. Leave a small amount of liquid with the leaves. Swirl the cup clockwise, then invert onto a saucer. The holidays are around the corner and if you are the crafty type creating presents is the perfect way to gift magic to your loved ones. In this blog post I’ll be sharing a variety of ways to turn mundane gifts into ones filled with magic.  It is important to keep in mind that practicing magical ethics is crucial to bless your loved one with positive energy. Please use respect and practice consent. For instance, my grandparents are devoted Christians. If I were to gift them magic I’d first ask them if it’s okay to gift them positive energy and I’d work with the arch angels, the christian deities and beliefs.  Once you have your loved ones consent and boundaries there are many different ways to add sigils to your gifts. First Create your sigil, incorporate it into your gift and charge it to activate it.  Add sigils to your gifts: Draw a sigil for luck and prosperity in the new year on all your holiday cards and tags. Using a sharpie draw a sigil for pleasant surprise on the inside of the wrapping paper. If you’re painting them a gift, whether it be a painting, a print, a ceramic mug or anything else, add your sigil to the bottom layer and paint on top of it.  Gift them a framed picture and add the sigil behind the photo. Draw your sigil on natural paper and add it into the soil of a gifted plant.  Create seed paper and add the sigil to it once it’s dry.  When gifting baked goods carve a sigil for health into the tops of cookies, cakes, loaf, etc.  Draw a sigil for attracting love onto a bay leaf and add it to oil and herb infused bath salts.  Use a wood burning tool to transform any wood surface into a magical work of art. Carve a sigil to never go hungry into a cutting board or charcuterie board.  Use a dremel to carve sigils into metal, stone or glass surfaces.  Create a rune set. Add a sigil for energy onto the bottom of a coffee mug.  Stitch a sigil for protection into scarves, bags, hats, and any other clothing you are gifting.  When making coffee or hot chocolate put the cream in a food syringe and draw a sigil for joy onto the surface of the warm beverage.  Brew yourself a cup of magical tea by using a toothpick, draw a sigil for a peaceful sleep with honey on the bottom of your cup before adding water.  However you choose to incorporate magic into your gifts, whether it be by charging an object on an altar, adding essential oils, or basking them under the light of the full moon, make sure to honour the elements and or deities imbuing their magic by gifting them an offering.  Sigils are one of my go to ways to inconspicuously add magic into my home. It is the perfect way to add magic to loved ones gifts without it screaming witch. 

Plants and herbs are a staple among magical practitioner. Sage to cleanse, chamomile to calm and roses for love. These are three well known herbal correspondences known to the magical and the mundane community alike.  Herbs have such a wide range of use. You can use them in food to ingest your magic or you can use them to dress magical candles to add another layer of power and intent. The uses are vast. With a little creativity you can incorporate herbs into almost every magical practice.  We offer ready made Magical witch's Jars of custom herb blends for specific purposes. We also have a DIY herbal spell to create permanent sacred space. Creating magical incense Magical incense blends are a combination of loose, dry herbs you can purchase in store or make yourself. You can burn them over a charcoal puck in a fire safe container on a bed of sand or salt or over a bonfire.  The benefits to creating your own magical incense is that it is loaded with your intention for your specific purpose. By combining three or more herbs with appropriate correspondences for your intention you can create a powerful tool.  A recipe for a magical incense to help you divine includes mugwort and willow bark to help strengthen your divination abilities combined with dandelion root to call in the spirits. With a little creativity you can create a loose, magical incense blend for just about anything.  Magical Baths Submerging your body into water steeped with specific herbs is a powerful way of integrating that energy into yourself. You can leave the herbs, plants and flowers free floating for a luxurious experience, or keep them in an organza bag for easy cleanup. You can add stones, music and intention dressed candles to boost the magic.  If I were taking a bath for self love I would include roses, calendula and rosemary. I’d submerge a rose quartz or three into the bath with me and I’d light a red candle that’s been covered in rosemary oil for clarity of mind and crushed, dried rose petals for love.  Check out our Abundance Ritual With The Goddess Oshun for a bath ritual as an offering to the benevolent Goddess. Magical Sachets A magical sachet, also known as a mojo bag, is a small, cloth bag filled with curios with intent to draw in or keep away a specific energy. You can use various herbs, oils, stones or small items that are significant to your intention.  If I created a mojo bag to attract new opportunities I’d add rosemary for mental clarity, sugar or honey to attract sweetness, spearmint for wealth and luck, lemon balm as a road opener, green adventuring for wealth, and a key to open doors.  If I were to create a magical sachet for protection I’d add nettle for privacy and defence, dandelion for strength, black tourmaline to draw negativity off of me, pyrite to strengthen my aura, rosemary to send back the energy from where it came and an evil eye charm.  When creating sachets its also excellent to burn a candle with intention to charge up your mojo bag. Be sure to only use herbs that are safe for ingestion! Stick to your spice rack, and if not please proceed with caution.  Drinking tea can be a ritual all to itself. Choosing the intention you want to bring forth and mindfully choosing the herbs is a calming practice in awareness. I like to hold my herbs in my hand and whisper my intention over top of them three times. Steeping the tea in the water provides an opportunity to warm your hands and infuse your tea further with your intention.  If you are adding sweeteners you can use the opportunity to attract sweetness into your life. While stirring your tea recite out loud your intention three times, feeling your energy flow from your heart centre down your spoon into your tea. If you’re attracting something into your life stir clockwise, if you’re cleansing yourself stir counter clockwise.  Sit with your tea, feel the warmth seep through your hands into your body. Take a sip and feel the magic enter your body as you swallow. Feel it permeate your body, mind and spirit. As you drink your tea visualize your intention coming true. How would it feel, look, taste, smell, what would it sound like? Use all your senses.  Try out one of our guided tea ceremonies if you want to dip your toes into ingesting your magic. Tea Ceremony for Conscious Communication A Magical Herb Garden Add an extra layer of personal power into your spell work by using herbs you’ve grown and cared for. When you are using elements in a spell, whether it’s an incantation, a candle, oils, or herbs, when they are forged from your hands, charged with your intention throughout every step of the way, the magic will always be more powerful.  Growing an herb garden is an excellent way to infuse your love and your energy into the plant. When it comes time to harvest you can be sure that it will be more powerful. The more energy you put into your spell work the greater the results. 

Mothers are magical, there’s no doubt about it. There’s probably nothing more magical in this world than growing a child from your own body and then raising that child into a person who will become the future of our world!  Now we also want to acknowledge that you do not have to give birth to be a mother either! Being a mother and family in general is so much more than blood, but it is something our souls form. Motherhood looks different for everyone and that’s what makes it so beautiful. No experience is the same and that’s why we look to our mothers for the wisdom, understanding and skill sets that will carry us throughout the rest of our lives! Mother’s Day is the day to bring that mindful acknowledgement to the forefront of our lives and to honour and thank them! We also understand that not everyone has a healthy relationship with their mother. There are many, many people out there who have been mistreated, shunned or hurt deeply by their mothers. We want to honour the sons and daughters of those mothers today as well and give them meditative and healing options for them to partake in on this day as well!  Honouring Gaia on Mother’s Day Gaia, Mother Earth, Mother Nature- however you wish to refer to her as, she is what we walk on everyday. She is a primordial goddess and the personification of the Earth in Greek Mythology. Gaia emerged from Chaos and is considered the supreme or mother goddess. All gods and goddesses are descended from her through her union with Uranus (Heaven) and Pontus (Sea). Indigenous peoples of North America have always honoured the beauty and chaos that is Mother Nature. She is the grass beneath our feet, the leaves rustling above us, the flowers blooming in the spring. Mother Nature is all around us and the most ancient and wise of our civilizations honour her before anything. Algonquian legend says that "beneath the clouds lives the Earth-Mother from whom is derived the Water of Life, who at her bosom feeds plants, animals and human" (Larousse 428). She is otherwise known as Nokomis, the Grandmother. Honouring both a sunny day and a rainy one just the same. The belief in the natural way of life, of oneness with each other and all living beings is often lost to us in a post-colonized and busy life of the 21st Century. All our computers and social media apps and reality shows often pull us from our true nature as human beings. If we take some time to connect with the outside, we are able to find a sense of peace and tranquility in the go go go of our lives. So for those with estranged mothers or those who want to take some time to honour the goddess of our Earth, we’ve come up with some activities you can do! Charging With Gaia: The Earth is a great form of transmuting negative energy into positive energy! You have probably been told a few times that a form of cleansing your crystals is actually to bury them and then dig them up again a couple hours or days later (usually in the consistency of a holy number like 3 days or 3 hours) and they will both be cleansed and charged! This comes from the idea of the natural cycle of wildlife. Think of the life cycle of any of the creatures even found in your own backyard! The squirrels and birds and chipmunks! They feed from the earth, gain life from the earth and one day when they die, their bodies will feed the earth back and bring forth new life. To some it can seem morbid to think about, but once again, that is the beautiful and chaotic balance Gaia brings us.  Like a life cycle, our energy turns and flows as well. We will always fluctuate our energy based on the different phases of our lives that we go through! It is unrealistic for anyone to constantly be “high vibrational.” Expecting anything else is refuting our own human nature and the lessons we are here to learn! So, let the Earth cleanse and recharge you! Connecting with nature is in turn, our human nature as well! We were made to feel connected to the Earth, to both feed from it and give back to it just as any other living being here! Connecting will calm us so we can be mindful of our thoughts, feelings and in turn behaviours. The Cognitive Triangle shows us how all of these impact and lean back on each other. Having a clear mind can help us with that!   Find a comforting place in nature, this can be anywhere as simple as your backyard and kick those shoes off! Let your bare feet touch the grass, the dirt, maybe an ant will run across your toes- and this may be uncomfortable to some at first but take a few minutes to really pay attention to your senses. Close your eyes and don’t just focus on the ground beneath you but also the air around you! The wind, maybe there’s a faint smell of spring flowers, birds singing or grasshoppers chirping. Let yourself live in the moment like this until you find yourself breathing steadily and comfortably before continuing.  We suggest building an outside altar, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, it could just be on your backyard picnic table or even on top of a rock! Place some things on this altar that represent the Earth to you. If you are a crystal collector feel free to place some of your favourites on this! Some wonderful Earth element crystals we love are Moss Agate, Tree Agate or Rhyolite (also known as Rainforest Jasper)! But if not, any rock off the ground, flower or even a piece of bark can symbolize earth to you! The Earth is plentiful and bountiful, and it can be fun to represent this by placing a bunch of different natural findings on this altar as well! You can have fun with this and decorate it to the maximum or you can simply place one thing of importance instead! It’s up to you! This altar allows you a space to channel your energy and fully dive into the purpose of your meditation!  Light some incense, we love palo santo resin and amber resin but you can always choose your own favourite! Then light a candle, we suggest either lighting a pink, green or white candle and then beginning your favourite grounding method! A classic one and also one our favourites is the tree root method, because it is both grounding and recharging and using the Earth to do so! This meditation can be done anytime whenever you may be feeling stressed, anxious or drained!  Close your eyes and keep your breath comfortably even before imagining tree roots forming from your feet and growing down into the earth. Watch them in your mind’s eye as they travel down, down, down into the Earth’s core where a large ball of light waits to heal you. Once your roots reach the light, the light travels back up these roots until they reach each root. This bright light travels from your feet all the way up your body to your head. You can reach your arms to the sky, as if they were treetops and picture the light reaching the tips of your fingers! The trick is training our brains to think in an abundance mindset instead of a scarcity mindset.  When you catch yourself saying “I’m too poor for that” switch it up asap with “In the future I’ll be able to afford that” or "That's not for me at this time". When you’re complaining about money or joking around end it with something along the lines of "but it will get better, this is only my current reality". Everything changes, and you doing this work will guarantee that.  Bad Money Habits Another common way we block the flow of prosperity is with our habits.  There is a big difference between being frugal and being stingy. This comes from a place of privilege, but spending small amounts of money on things that make us happy or small acts of charity help the flow of prosperity.  I look at prosperity like a current of water, if there are ebbs and flows then there’s movement but if there is none then your water becomes stagnant.  Next time you have to spend money look at it as an opportunity to help grow your prosperity mindset. When you spend that money you can include an affirmation like “I pay this bill knowing that money will flow back into my life and my wallet.” Back it up when you do receive money with a phrase like "This is proof that the flow of prosperity in my life is balanced". I like to buy myself something inexpensive once a week/month, usually a bar of dark chocolate. I feel luxurious when I am eating the chocolate and it allows me to be grateful that I can spend well deserved money on myself.  I also will give the loose change in my pockets or in my car to buskers or those who are less fortunate than myself. I give this money knowing that it will help prosperity flow easier into my life.  On the other hand Impulse spending is equally blocking you from prosperity. It can demonstrate a lack of respect towards money, that it’s meaningless and therefor not worth holding onto. If you’re constantly spending money on things that hold no significant value to you, why would additional prosperity enter into your life? Question your Beliefs I grew up hearing “Money doesn’t grow on trees”, “I’m not made of money”, and “we can’t afford that”. Therefor when it was my time to build a relationship with money I believed it was difficult to come by and I had to work really hard to gain it. I was afraid to spend my money out of fear that none would come to take its place.  In contrast an important person in my life grew up never seeing their parent because they were always working. They inadvertently blamed money for the lack of a parental figure in their childhood. They hated money, never wanted it because they believed it would always corrupt and keep you from what you loved.  These are the hard truths we have to look at when doing prosperity work. These beliefs have to be questioned and healed, otherwise, no matter how much money you attain it will only ever be temporary.  When working on our relationship to money we have to look into our ancestral trauma, the relationship our parents had with money, how they spent it, their beliefs, etc.  We have to look at our mindset and our self-worth. Do we believe that we are worthy of money? That there is enough to go around? That we are not as deserving as those who are struggling?  These are the hard questions we have to ask ourselves if we want to heal our relationship with money. This is the work we have to do if we want to create lasting prosperity in our lives.  I’m not saying you have to do all of the above, and I am aware it can come off as privileged. My intent is to offer you insight into my own journey when I began working with my relationship with money. All I ask is that you take whatever resonates with you and forget the rest.
