   This year has been full of transformation already, and this New Moon in Pisces is putting the focus on you! It's time to get ready for the major shifts and changes that are coming about this New Moon! The Pisces New Moon on February 27th is the last lunar cycle of the astrological, and whisking us into Eclipse Season.       This moon will be an impactful one and will open a portal into one of the most transformative points of the year. It's time to connect with your innermost self, and celebrate you. This is a good time to get in touch with your intuition, do some divination for spirit communication, and remember that you have an inner child who desires compassion and empathy.      The New Moon is a beginning of a new cycle, and when the moon is dark, it's time to sit quiet and examine are deepest self. Set goals, do spells and plant the seeds of intention. A time of reflection and personal growth. It is believed that as the moon grows, that your intention or goal will grow too usually by the time the moon completes its cycle and returns full circle to new again.      If your Sun sign is in Pisces, or if you are a sensitive person, you might feel extra sensitive and emotional, this manifesting in being scattered and feeling unbalanced, overly emotional and vulnerable. Your intuition might be heightened or your dreams more vivid. This will be temporary, and remember, you are exactly where you need to be.      This can be an overwhelming time, but also at the same time, enlightening.  Ground yourself in this moment. Embrace this opportunity to heal and grow, examine your feelings and reactions to gain deeper insight into yourself, your shadow side, your vulnerabilities. Love and accept yourself, using this time to unconditionally love all parts of yourself.      This New Moon takes place at 9 degrees of Pisces, which is associated with success and mastery. This degree holds the vibration that we have the power to do what we do best and allow our inner light to shine. It asks us to show up as our authentic selves and trust in the innate wisdom that lives within. We all have things we are good at. What are your skills and talents? What makes you unique? What are your strengths? It's time to shine!      From February 27th, until the end of Eclipse Season on April 27th, we are in a portal of deep transformation, healing, and shifting. At the end of April, your life may look very different than it does now. Take time on the New Moon to write down your goals, all the changes you wish to make, and the steps you are going to take to achieve them. If you are already going through a change, things could speed up. If you've been resisting making some changes, you may be pushed to do what you need to do. Change is always hard, but you got this. Remember that life is a journey of ups and downs and in the end, you will be ok, and often times in a better place.      By tuning into your deep inner self, embracing your authentic being and letting yourself shine, this is a wonderful time of change, transformation and rebirth.  Workings & Rituals for the Pisces New Moon: Working with the Element of Water: This is the perfect time to connect with the element of Water. You can do this by taking a ritual or meditation bath, putting some water on your altar as an offering. Meditating on the qualities of water such as cooling, flowing through difficult situations, strength etc. Put a bowl of water out under the moon to use in a bath, wash your alter, floors etc. to bring in new beginnings and a fresh start. Road Opening to remove obstacles from your path and attract what you desire: For this Pisces New Moon, you can intentions and do workings to embrace your talents, be more confident, and to express your unique self with confidence.  If you feel blocked or need some clarity, a road opening spell can help you with this. When you do road opening work, I find it doesn't magically clear your path, but illuminates what is blocking you.  Doing road opening workings will help you move forward, removing any personal blocks you might have with your creativity, goals, or even yourself. There are many things you can do such as a ritual bath and a Candle spell. For a road opening bath you can use a traditional herbal bath, or mix your own herbs such as Abre Camino, Cinquefoil, lemongrass etc. add some Kananga Water for removing any negativity. For your candle spell, dress a Road Open or Orange candle with Abre Camino oil, write what you want to achieve and to remove anything that is standing in your way. Put the paper under your candle and burn down fully. Over the next few weeks, be mindful of the signs and events going on that are pointing you in the right direction. Be aware that events might kick up such as finding out the truth about someone, yourself, or something suddenly changing unexpectedly. Always remember that in the end, your spirit guides are clearing your path for something new, even if it's unpleasant in the moment. Litha, also known as the summer solstice and Midsummer, is one of the eight sabbats celebrated in the year of the wheel. Litha occurs on the longest day of the year, the first day of summer, celebrating and honouring the sun.  Yule celebrates the Winter Solstice. Imbolc or Candlemas celebrates the first signs of spring. Ostara celebrates the Spring Equinox. Beltane celebrates May Day. Litha celebrates the Summer Solstice. Lughnasadh or Lammas celebrates the start of the harvest season Mabon celebrates the Autumn Equinox Samhain celebrates Halloween On the summer solstice we show our gratitude by working with the fiery energy of the sun to help propel us through our lives. This is a time of great action. On Litha we have an opportunity to harness this mighty force to burst through blocks, Intentionally charge your body, crystals, and trigger transformation.  On midsummer we work with the Southern element, fire. Every magical practitioner will have different reasons and meanings associated with the element. Our relationships can subtlety shift our perceptions of the elements, but generally the element of fire is associated with power, passion, creativity, sex, and transformation.  Throughout this post we will explore 3 rituals you can perform to honour and work with the element of Fire to help support your life.  Check out our Ritual For Abundance With The Goddess Oshun for an everyday summer spell you can perform. Building relationships with deities is a beautiful way to honour those who have come before you while building your personal power. Oshun is a gentle and benevolent Orisha that welcomes new devotees.  Leap Of Faith Fire Ceremony On the longest day of the year the energy of fire is aligned and alive. We can use this day to shift major areas of our lives. We have an opportunity to break through core beliefs that are blocking our magic, obstacles holding us back, and situations we want to leave in the past.  For this ceremony you will need: A red candle  An object your are willing to part with to represent what you want to be rid of An object you want to keep with you that represents your desired outcome.  Begin by cleansing your candle by running it under cold water for 30 seconds. Next we are going to dress our candle. Since this is a ceremony to remove things from our lives we want to leave space within the candle to absorb that which we do not want. This means we don’t want to add all the sigils, symbols, herbs, crushed stones or heavy oils. I suggest only lightly dressing our candle with an appropriate oil like Block Buster Oil, Road Opener oil, or Clear & Protect Oil. Set your dressed candle aside.  Next we will cleanse that object we are willing to part with. I recommend choosing a stone like Smokey Quartz or an object that holds memory. Run your object under cold water for 30 seconds.  Finally we will cleanse your token of the future by running it under cold water for 30 seconds. Once your candle and tokens are prepped it is time to choose your location, set sacred space, and prepare cautionary measures. We are literally going to be jumping over the flame so we need to set ourselves up for success.  We advise to perform this ceremony outside on patio stones, not wood. Wear tight fitting clothing and shoes. Place your candle in a stable, fire safe container. Have cold water or a fire extinguisher accessible in case of an emergency. Make sure there is plenty of room around your candle for you to quickly step over or jump over.  When you are ready pick up your token and hold it between your hands at your heart centre. Focus on your intention, what you want to leave behind. Pour it into your token. All the emotion it triggers, all the physical symptoms or feelings in your body triggered, all the memories and pain, pour all of that into your token until you no longer feel it within your body.  When you feel ready put your token representing the past down on the floor behind you. Don’t look at it, don’t look back until you’ve completed this ritual.  Step up to the position, ready to step or jump over the flame. Out loud speak your intention. Speak to the universe what you are leaving behind when you travel “through” the flame.  Step or jump over the flame.  On the other side looking into the future pick up the outcome token and hold it between your hands at your heart centre. Focus on how you imagine your life in the future will look without your burden. What emotions will you feel? How will your body physically feel? What activities do you hope to perform? What will it sound like? Take your time and pour all of that into your token.  Carry your future token on your person for the next year, until you loose it or it feels appropriate to leave it behind.  When you feel ready and the ceremony is done thank the element of Fire and close your sacred space. When you are finished extinguish your flame and throw your old token in a random dumpster or garbage off of your property.  Intention Charging Sun Bath  The element of fire popularly represents passion, drive, inspiration, creativity, comfort, and arousal. It is the quality of our nervous system that control our bodies. It is our vitality, our ability to be active and sensual.  The first day of summer is a perfect time for a revitalizing sun bath. Gather yourself, a blanket, stones, talismans or jewelry and head out to your favourite location with an open sky out in nature. My go to places are well loved parks or beaches.  I suggest using stones associated with the element of fire. My top picks are sunstone, carnelian and citrine.  If you are charging up your body I suggest wearing a bathing suit and sun block. It’s important to create balance by protecting your skin from the powerful sun rays. A sun burn is counter active to what we aim to accomplish.  While you are laying down comfortably, surrounded by your trinkets that you want charged take this time to perform a revitalizing meditation.  Connect with the various aspects of fire you wish to imbue into your body/tokens. You can focus on one or if you want to fully honour the element you can go through each one individually.  Focus on passion, you drive, inspiration, and creativity. Feel from your sacral area and your solar plexus filling up with that energy. Feel it spreading through your body, from your core into your extremities. Feel yourself so full that the energy is over flowing out of your fingertips and toes.  Feel the energy warm you from the outside in. Feel it heating your body, your blood, loosening up tight muscles, expanding your blood vessels. Feel yourself take up space that you inherently deserve. Feel your aura grow and strengthen.  Feel every aspect of your body filled with this energy. Feel your bones energized, feel the muscles and deep tissue warmed by this energy. Feel your nerves, the electrical currents running through your body becoming super active. Feel the blood and liquids in your body flowing freely, spreading oxygen and health through your body.  When you are finished thank the sun, thank the element of fire, and thank your body for holding this energy. You can leave an offering to the sun and Fire elements. Appropriate offerings include whiskey, tobacco, and sunflower seeds.  Transformation BBQ Ritual  This ritual is a wonderful group activity to do some low-key, high impact magic.  In this ritual we will use the transformation aspect of the sun and the element of fire. By taking raw food and using the transformative powers of fire to make it edible we can add an intention to get these same results in an aspect of our lives.  You can grill meat, vegetables, fruit, really any foods you feel appropriate for this task. Take some time to think about the area of your life you want to transform.  Maybe you need to attract relationships, turn a cold situation with one infused with warmth. I’d go to marshmallows or something sweet.  If I wanted to transform a situation relating to business or hard work I’d lean towards meat, tofu, fish or any protein heavy food. We want to encourage energy and fuel for our bodies.  Look at the metaphysical properties of veggies, of animals, and of fruits to find the appropriate food you wish to transform. One of my favourites is The Magic of Food by Gwion Raven.  You can either perform this ritual using a barbecue or a fire pit.  Fire pit friendly foods include hot dogs, s’mores, popcorn, and marshmallows. I have a cast iron pan with a lid and I recently made ramen with an egg and bok choy in my fire pit.  While prepping your foods consider their properties and how they relate to the aspects of your life you wish to transform. You can speak it out loud as well.  While you’re cooking your food speak about the transformation you wish to trigger in your life. Speak out loud or discuss it with your group. Talk about how it’ll improve your life, get into the details. How do you plan on making and supporting these changes? How will you incorporate it into your life? This is a celebration so I encourage laughter and joy. Love makes food taste better! When you are consuming your food take your time with it. Savour the flavours, feel the food slide down your throat and into your stomach. Feel your teeth breaking down the food, doing the work to transform it into a form your body can absorb.  Feel this in your body deeply. Smell the food, this is a sensory ritual, indulge your senses.  Make sure to place a small portion on a plate for the sun and element of fire. Make an offering for the gratitude you feel and for the work that you will do to transform your life.  The sun and the element of fire are present in our lives every single day. It makes the food grow, the planet warm enough to support life, it helps create rain. It is a force that deserves to be honoured and respected. Without it life wouldn’t be viable.  Take this day to honour its effect in your life and build a relationship with it by performing some magic together.  Blessings to you on this fiery day. 

Plants and herbs are a staple among magical practitioner. Sage to cleanse, chamomile to calm and roses for love. These are three well known herbal correspondences known to the magical and the mundane community alike.  Herbs have such a wide range of use. You can use them in food to ingest your magic or you can use them to dress magical candles to add another layer of power and intent. The uses are vast. With a little creativity you can incorporate herbs into almost every magical practice.  We offer ready made Magical witch's Jars of custom herb blends for specific purposes. We also have a DIY herbal spell to create permanent sacred space. Creating magical incense Magical incense blends are a combination of loose, dry herbs you can purchase in store or make yourself. You can burn them over a charcoal puck in a fire safe container on a bed of sand or salt or over a bonfire.  The benefits to creating your own magical incense is that it is loaded with your intention for your specific purpose. By combining three or more herbs with appropriate correspondences for your intention you can create a powerful tool.  A recipe for a magical incense to help you divine includes mugwort and willow bark to help strengthen your divination abilities combined with dandelion root to call in the spirits. With a little creativity you can create a loose, magical incense blend for just about anything.  Magical Baths Submerging your body into water steeped with specific herbs is a powerful way of integrating that energy into yourself. You can leave the herbs, plants and flowers free floating for a luxurious experience, or keep them in an organza bag for easy cleanup. You can add stones, music and intention dressed candles to boost the magic.  If I were taking a bath for self love I would include roses, calendula and rosemary. I’d submerge a rose quartz or three into the bath with me and I’d light a red candle that’s been covered in rosemary oil for clarity of mind and crushed, dried rose petals for love.  Check out our Abundance Ritual With The Goddess Oshun for a bath ritual as an offering to the benevolent Goddess. Magical Sachets A magical sachet, also known as a mojo bag, is a small, cloth bag filled with curios with intent to draw in or keep away a specific energy. You can use various herbs, oils, stones or small items that are significant to your intention.  If I created a mojo bag to attract new opportunities I’d add rosemary for mental clarity, sugar or honey to attract sweetness, spearmint for wealth and luck, lemon balm as a road opener, green adventuring for wealth, and a key to open doors.  If I were to create a magical sachet for protection I’d add nettle for privacy and defence, dandelion for strength, black tourmaline to draw negativity off of me, pyrite to strengthen my aura, rosemary to send back the energy from where it came and an evil eye charm.  When creating sachets its also excellent to burn a candle with intention to charge up your mojo bag. Be sure to only use herbs that are safe for ingestion! Stick to your spice rack, and if not please proceed with caution.  Drinking tea can be a ritual all to itself. Choosing the intention you want to bring forth and mindfully choosing the herbs is a calming practice in awareness. I like to hold my herbs in my hand and whisper my intention over top of them three times. Steeping the tea in the water provides an opportunity to warm your hands and infuse your tea further with your intention.  If you are adding sweeteners you can use the opportunity to attract sweetness into your life. While stirring your tea recite out loud your intention three times, feeling your energy flow from your heart centre down your spoon into your tea. If you’re attracting something into your life stir clockwise, if you’re cleansing yourself stir counter clockwise.  Sit with your tea, feel the warmth seep through your hands into your body. Take a sip and feel the magic enter your body as you swallow. Feel it permeate your body, mind and spirit. As you drink your tea visualize your intention coming true. How would it feel, look, taste, smell, what would it sound like? Use all your senses.  Try out one of our guided tea ceremonies if you want to dip your toes into ingesting your magic. Tea Ceremony for Conscious Communication A Magical Herb Garden Add an extra layer of personal power into your spell work by using herbs you’ve grown and cared for. When you are using elements in a spell, whether it’s an incantation, a candle, oils, or herbs, when they are forged from your hands, charged with your intention throughout every step of the way, the magic will always be more powerful.  Growing an herb garden is an excellent way to infuse your love and your energy into the plant. When it comes time to harvest you can be sure that it will be more powerful. The more energy you put into your spell work the greater the results. 

Magical oils are diverse in their uses. Often used for anointing, they can have a powerful effect on the energy you want to attract or banish. You can anoint them on just about anything.  What makes oils magic is the intention and will put into them. If you create your own oils around a specific intent and charge each item individually, you’ll end up with a mighty powerful oil blend to use for your magic purpose.  Oil Infusions An oil infusion begins by selecting a carrier oils. There are plenty of options to choose from. My favourites include: borage seed oil: for courage, hightened spiritual powers, and protection. This oil has a slightly green tint that you will find in many of my conjure oils. Borage is an excellent carrier oil for banishing, uncrossing, and road opener oils.  Almond oil: All nut oils are powerful abundance and prosperity oils. Almond oil is an excellent carrier to use for attraction oils.  Refraction coconut oil: Is strong for protection, purity, fertility, lunar magic and water magic. This is a great oil to use when working with emotions. Use this carrier oil for cleansing oils. Once you have your carrier oil you can submerge various herbs. The herbs you select can be as common as those found at your local grocery store, or rare metaphysical herbs found in a spiritual botanica. Over time the herbs breakdown and infuse into the carrier oil. I like to let my oil infusions sit for 3 lunar cycles.  Using Magical Oils Anointing One of the simplest and quickest uses for magical oils is for anointing purposes. You can apply oil (anoint) to yourself to attract a specific energy or for protection, you can anoint your magical tools for increased power, you can anoint your jewelry, stones, clothing, the options are limitless.  The most important part of anointing is to declare your intention and add your will while applying it.  Dressing your Candle You can use magical oils on your candles for a two part effect. First it adds an additional layer of magic, so choose the oil wisely since you’ll want it’s energy to harmonize with your candle intention. Secondly it acts as a binding agent for rolling your candle into herbal correspondences.  Read more about dressing your candle on our maintaining a magical practice page.  Magical Baths Magical baths are a great way to infuse yourself with intention. Submerging your entire body into water charged with intent will infuse your being with magic. You can relax in the water and visualize your intention.  I like to use a combination of herbs, stones and oils in my bath water to add multiple layers of magic. When you’re adding each ingredient it is important to state your purpose and let it flow into your bath.  Learn how to create magical, herb infused baths in our blog post about herbal magic.  Magical sprays A go to for on the go magic, sprays are versatile and easy to create. Grab a spray bottle, add some distilled water and several drops of essential oil, add your will and energy and voila! You have yourself a powerful magical spray.  You can add additional layers of magic by working with lunar magic or solar magic. Charge the water under the moon rays for moon water. You can use specific lunar phases to charge your water for specific intents. Charge your water in the sun for vitality, passion & strength.  Another way to use magical sprays is to lightly anoint important documents. If you’ve got important court documents spray those very lightly with a bend over spray. If you are passing out resumes, anoint them with a come to me spray.  Magical Floor Washes Another use for oils is to put them in your floor washes. An easy way to infuse your entire home with magic, you can use different oils to achieve different results. Wash your front and back door with a prosperity infused wash, your windows with protection and your floors with a cleansing wash.  To create a magical wash add a few drops of your selected oil to your water. Speak your desired outcome and charge your will into the water. Use liberally throughout your house, office or in your car. Mojo Bags Add an additional layer to your magically charged sachets with specially chosen oils. Adding oils to a mojo bag can be a powerful way to engage an additional sense. When you get a wiff of the oil used in your mojo bag it’ll be a reminder of the magic you carry with you.  Learn how to create a magical sachet in our blog post about herbal magic. Anointing your Altar Items Spending time with your Altar items is an important step to align your energies with your tools. After cleansing your tools you can anoint them with an oil. I like to use either a dragons blood oil for a boost of power, Sandalwood oil for consecration, or mandrake root oil for protection.  My favourite aspect when working with oils is the variety of ingredients offered. You can use pure essential oils, herbs and roots, or a combination of both. Once your oil is ready for use then the fun begins. You get to choose how to use them in your magical practice and when. That’s the beauty of magic, it’s unique to each practitioner.

I find neuroscience fascinating, especially when you consider the implications neural plasticity has when directed towards mental health. Neural Plasticity is the brains ability to change. No matter what age you are your brain has the capability to create new neural networks and prune old ones you no longer want around. This is what is often referred to as "Shadow work" in the metaphysical world. I highly recommend using multiple sources of support throughout this process. Family, friends, a social worker, a therapist, etc.   What Is Neural Plasticity? To simplify we’ll use a metaphor. Consider your brain as a city. Each building stores various schemes, or categories of information. The roads that connect each of those buildings (stores of information) are the neural pathways/networks.  As an example let’s say you want to take a drink of coffee. In one building (scheme) you hold all the information on how to take that drink. You have to reach out your hand, close your hand around the cup, identify where your mouth is and lift it up to your lips. Make sure your lips are in proper position and you tilt the cup every so slightly as to not spill it all over yourself.  In a separate building lies the information that holds what to do if it’s a hot drink. You have gathered this information due to past experiences of scalding your mouth, which is an unpleasant experience you want to avoid.  In order to tie these two schemes together you have to use the roads (neural pathways).  When it comes to healing trauma, consider your triggers. I’ll use my personal healing journey as an example.  Fig 1. The 4 Attachment Styles Due to my traumatic childhood/adolescence I developed an avoidant attachment style. This meant that I learnt from a young age that I couldn’t rely on anyone but myself. If I did rely on someone, it most often ended up in disappointment and abandonment. As an adult I grew into a hyper-independent individual. I was self-reliant, I  never asked for help, in fact, I viewed help as a form of weakness.  In relationships  this attachment style presented itself by closing myself up to others. I had walls built up around my gooey insides to protect my vulnerable bits. When I got hurt I intentionally froze people out because they didn’t deserve to see me in my most vulnerable state. I was too scared of getting hurt. I became a martyr with my emotions. I was so lonely, but I did it to myself and constantly complained about it.  Eventually, through self-therapy, journaling, and trauma tarot work, I recognized this pattern and its negative effect on my life. I decided to change it. A book I recommend you read if you are interested in the science behind habit forming is "Rewire Your Brain: Think Your Way to a Better Life" by John B. Arden Changing Your Brain   Fig 2. Rewire your brain with gratitude Here’s the thing about the brain, it can’t differentiate between memory and reality. We all have moments where we relive a fight in our minds. We come up with better arguments, we find loopholes we couldn’t see at the time, we discover new variables that we hadn’t considered before. When we are re-living those moments in our imaginations our brain believes it is really happening. Therefor it produces the same chemicals and the same results as when it did happen.  The more you relive this experience in your mind the easier it becomes to access the same chemical results. Eventually your brain develops automaticity towards this neurological event and it happens without any thought, it’s automatic. What I refer to as neural highways are neural networks that have been so well travelled that it becomes a way of living, an automatic reaction that your body and mind depends on.  Whenever my avoidant attachment style was triggered I would go down this neural pathway that lead me into reliving arguments in my head. My cortisol (stress hormone) spiked, my adrenaline would race and my heart rate would speed up. Mentally I was angry. I was furious. I was entitled. I was dangerous.  One thing the book did not prepare me for was how long of a process changing your neural network is. It took me years, and even to this day I still have to work to avoid going back into that avoidant attachment style. But I promise it is worth it!!! The change happens slowly and in layers. For me the first layer was becoming aware of this unhealthy process/reaction. I just noticed it while it was happening or after it had happened and acknowledged it for what it was.  Once I was able to recognize the pattern and identify when it was happening I could make a decision to let it happen or to stop it in its tracks. Over time I got better and better at this. I learnt tricks to stop it from happening. Walking away and giving myself 15 minutes to regulate my nervous system was incredibly helpful. Journaling about it and writing it down gave me a physical place to deescalate the situation. Going for a walk or any movement was helpful. Once I was deescalated I was able to think rationally. First I acknowledged my tiny accomplishment and told myself how proud I am of myself. Secondly I reaffirmed the new habit I wanted to build. I would tell myself that I am open to a secure attachment style, I am open to being vulnerable with others I trust. Only I am capable of healing myself, that is my responsibility.  Fig 3. Neurons that fire together (use your senses) wire together Using Magic to Change Your Brain Doing spells to change your mindset and improve your mental health is an excellent way to build new neural pathways and strengthen them. When creating new knowledge in your brain, the best way to make it stick is to engage multiple senses. I don’t know about you, but the lessons I remember best are ones that I can physically learn through my hands and eyes.  When you are creating a spell you are making choices to choose correspondences, you are setting an intention and you are putting all your energy and will into that intention.  With the intention to change your brain whatever oils or herbs you choose will strengthen the neural network. The scents will build a layer of pathways that are linked to your intention. Whatever incense you have burning, whatever scents are around you, those can all be linked to your intention. Scent is one of the strongest senses attached to memory.  Every action you do to build that spell strengthens those neural network layers. Holding the candle, carving a symbol or your intention into it, crushing up stone to roll your candle in, writing your intention on a piece of paper and burning it. Through your sense of touch you are adding layers into your neural network.  Use your sense of hearing by being mindful of what music you have playing in the background. Make your intention rhyme so that it’s fun to say and pleasant on the ears.  Engage your sense of site by choosing colours that hold meaning to you. Once your spell is completed continue to use your magic to build those neural pathways. When you are tempted to go back down those old, unhealthy neural pathways, instead stabilize your nervous system and repeat your intention out loud.  Fig 5. Create a talisman as a physical reminder Create a spell to charge a talisman that will be a visual reminder of your intention. Wear it or place it somewhere where you notice it often. Create a sigil for your intention and anoint yourself with that sigil using the oils you used to create your spell.  Every single action you take to re-wire your brain will increase the ease in which your brain flows towards that new belief/habit/reaction.  Building Mindfulness Tools Throughout this process you are adding new tools in your mental health tool box.  Self-awareness Self-awareness is one of the foundational tools for a healthy mindset. Each time you can identify when you are becoming elevated and/or your body chemistry is beginning to change, you are building self-awareness. With enough practice you will build your knowledge of your mental capacity. You will know when you need to exit a situation and take a break.  You can not learn, you can not retain Information, and you can not problem solve when you are escalated. When you are in fight or flight mode all you can do is survive.  This means that in order to communicate and get through an argument or a situation you have to approach it with a regulated nervous system.  Calming Techniques Building calming techniques is another tool to add to your mental health tool box. This is a place where you can have fun and play. Find out what works for you. A few that work wonders for me are: Fig 6. How To Do Square Breathing Write it out with journaling. Write about the situation or write down all the fucks you don’t want to give or who can go fuck what. Square breathing. When you have control of your breath you have control of your life.  Go for a walk. Physically remove yourself from the location and ground yourself. Walk barefoot on the grass. Dance it out. Nothing makes me feel better like good music and physical exercise. Get your sweat on for 15 minutes. Use your senses to ground yourself and calm your nervous system. The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique Fig 7. The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique Self-assessment Every time you become aware of your elevated state you are building a relationship with your body. Being able to scan your body and Identify how the situation is affecting you physically, mentally and spiritually, you are building your self-assessment tools. With enough practice you’ll be able to predict what your reaction will be to situations and have the opportunity to avoid them all together.  Self-Empowerment  Reclaim your power by choosing how to act/react. The only thing we have control over in this life is our response to it. Do so with intention. Do so with knowledge. Do so with choice.  No. Is the most powerful spell you can use. And I beg you to USE IT! Say it verbally, write it through texts. It is acceptable and valid for you to choose where you put your energy. At first it’s difficult to stand up for yourself, especially if no one has advocated for you before. Over time and with practice it becomes easier.  Shamelessly create those boundaries. If those around you do not like it then they are using you for their personal gain, not for your benefit. Keep yourself and others accountable to those boundaries! Communicate when they have been violated. If a situation makes you feel bad in a certain way it is a clear indicator that one of your boundaries/beliefs has been misused.  I like to joke around about how witchcraft is simply spicey psychology, but it’s true! I’ve used witchcraft to completely change my life. I promise you it is a challenge that is worth it. It’s not all uphill either. You are aloud to stumble, you are aloud to fall, just remember to get back up, brush off your clothes and try again. Don’t give up, that is the key.

This April is an exciting month for not only all astrology in general but especially the moon! From the truly magical eclipse we got to experience just a couple weeks ago to the full moon coming up on the 23rd of this month! In April, we have what we call the Pink Moon. This name comes from early farmer’s almanacs from early American settlers and Indigenous peoples. And no, unfortunately the moon won’t actually appear pink as cool as that would be- it is actually named from a flower that blooms in April called the Creeping Pholx! Mercury Retrograde also ends on the 24th, which is the very next day after the full moon! You could say this month was a bit chaotic with the eclipse and Mercury Retrograde but it was all for a reason!  This full moon also happens to be in the sign of Scorpio. Scorpio is known as probably the most intense of the zodiacs. They are deeply in tune with their shadow shelf and their emotions may run deeper than the average person, though they usually keep these feelings to themselves. Scorpios are known observers, watching everything with open eyes and closed lips. They tend to keep their cards close to their chests and only speak on things when they truly feel the need to.  Scorpios are known to be strongly connected to their intuition (as the water signs typically are) and their psychic senses. This tells us to listen attentively to our deepest needs. Transformative periods always come as the seasons change, preparing us for the next chapter of our life. So what can we do with this full moon to utilize this energy to the maximum?  St. Clare for Clarity  St. Clara, born as Chiara Offreduccio, was an Italian saint who lived during the 12th Century in Assisi. She is known as one of the first followers of the Italian mystic, Francis of Assisi, born Giovanni de Pietro de Bernardone and was canonized two years following his death. She founded the Order of the Poor Ladies, a covenant that lived in strict poverty. She also wrote the Rule of Life, which was the first set of monastic guidelines known to be written by a woman.  Her name Clare, meaning “clarity” comes from the belief that her modest lifestyle offered the shining light of clarity. In many folk practices, including Italian folk magic, she is used in spellwork for clarity! We can push back the stirring pot of emotions and intuition to deeper understand what our higher selves are trying to tell us. So what do we need for this spell? -St. Clare Clarity Oil -St. Clare Candle -Charcoal Pucks -Spearmint: all mints are super helpful in mental focus and clarity. This comes from the semi-shocking “spice” of that fresh mint smell. Think about how your toothpaste and mouthwash wakes you up in the morning- physical properties of herbs often influence their metaphysical properties.  -Tulsi: also known as Holy Basil, Queen of the Herbs. It’s holiness stems from the fact that Hindus regard it as a manifestation of the goddess Tulsi/Vrinda, the avatar of Lakshmi, and the consort of the god Vishnu. Regular use of Tulsi, can help support nervous system function, clarity of mind, memory and nervous tension. -Psychic Vision Powder: this is one of our made inhouse products and is a sachet powder that can be used in mojo bags, burned on charcoal like incense, or used to dress a candle. This incense powder is crafted to aid in your psychic senses and connect your conscious with your subconscious (your intuition)! Before performing any spellwork, we always suggest to cleanse your space so you have an energetically clean space to fill with the energy you wish you manifest as you perform this spell. You can cleanse your space in many different ways, but we prefer either smoking cleansing with sage or using a smoke free alternative such as a room spray. Next, light a charcoal puck in a fire space bowl and place a couple pinches of the Psychic Vision Powder on top of it to burn. This begins the set of the scene for our clarity spell.  Now it is time to dress our candle. Poke three holes in the top of the candle, we like to go a couple centimeters deep into the wax. We will then drop some of the St. Clare oil into these three holes before sprinkling a bit of spearmint and tulsi on top of the candle. You can also add the Psychic Vision powder as well. You don’t need a lot of these ingredients on the candle, it's always best to follow proper fire safety protocols when dressing a candle with dried herbs as they are quite flammable.  As you light the candle, you can repeat the words, “I am clear of mind. I am connected to my highest self. I know what I need for my highest good.” You can say these out loud or in your head but we like to speak out loud as voice can be a very powerful tool in magic.  When your candle is lit, it is a perfect time to meditate. Meditating during spellwork allows you to clear your mind of distractions, but in this case, we can think about the jumble of deadlines, lunch plans and finances during this spell. You don’t have to solve your issue at this moment, but focus on bringing clarity to these aspects of your life or any part of your life you may feel conflicted about.  This spell is not about fixing your conflicts in an instant, but instead it is about “opening the roads” of your mind. Sometimes the biggest roadblocks in our lives aren’t external things in our lives but our own minds trying to play against us. It is perfectly human.  This candle will last for seven days and it is perfect to do during the waning moon as well. The waning moon phases are all about focusing on the things in our lives that we wish to no longer have. To move away from as the moon moves away from full to new. The days after the full moon, as you relight this candle you can focus on mental obstacles moving away from your mind and clarity- bright white light- shining through the mind’s eye.  Crystals for the Pink Moon We thought of some of our favourite intuitive and clarifying crystals to use during this full moon. Charge them under the moon and keep them on your person as you go about the next few weeks and allow them to aid you in some mental guidance: Clear Quartz- The Master Healer and Stone of Clarity Clear Quartz is known as the master healing because it fits in any of the main energy points in our body, also known as the chakras. Clear Quartz has a natural property of clarity as it's name suggests but it can really help with anything you ask it to. For this month, we are using it in its most natural property.  Fluorite- The Stone of Focus Fluorite is a beautiful stone as it can come in many different colours, but most of the time you will find in in shades of blue, green and purple. As these colours suggest, it is very much a heavy upper chakra stone. Aiding in the heart, the throat for communication and creativity and of course the third eye for psychic senses. It is known as the stone of focus, and it is often a great stone for students, artists or anyone who needs some extra focus in their work! We often nickname it the "study stone" or "exam season stone."  Lapis Lazuli- The Stone of Psychic Awareness Lapis Lazuli has been a favoured stone by many peoples over hundreds of years, the most notable are the Ancient Egyptians. The Ancient Egyptians would decorate their sarcophagi with this memorizing blue stone. They would also use it to aid in astral travel and connection with their deities. Alongside other stones such as Malachite and Azurite, it would be crushed into a powder and used as cosmetic eyeshadow or as paint in artwork Lapis Lazuli is the stone of psychic awareness and communication. This is a perfect stone to connect to your highest self and guides to allow you to know what steps you must take.  A "Moony" Month With April being a month filled with many energies and the emotional waves of the watery Scorpio, it is important to allow yourself to take the time you need to take care of yourself. This will help you keep grounded when the air around us can appear pretty high strung.  Take the time you need this month to figure out your plans on your terms. We are all familiar with Mercury Retrograde. We’ve all blamed it for some reason whether that be lost emails, communication errors, road blocks or any other issues regarding communication, technology or travel. It's time to use all the cleansing practices in your tool box. Understanding the symptoms of carrying unwanted energy is helpful to your magical practice. Half Of Our Lives Is Spent During Mercury Retrograde  3-4 times a year we are affected by this planetary event. It lasts for 2 months each which totals 6-8 months of the year. That means half of our lives is spent under the influence of Mercury Retrograde.  Even though mercury retrograde has a bad rep with messing with our day to day lives it is a powerful opportunity to shift your mindset and turn your blocks into growth and evolution.  The first step is to being aware of what I like to call areas for elevation. These are the moments when you feel emotionally elevated. When your heart rate speeds up, you become dis regulated, irritated and stressed. It can even lead you to feeling attacked, putting you in a defensive position where you are guarded and unable to acknowledge anything other than the turmoil inside of you.  If you can during these emotionally elevated moments, and I know this can be asking a lot, step away from the situation and begin the process of regulating your nervous system. Breathing is by far the best way to begin this process.  3 breathing techniques to regulate your mind, body and spirit.   Scream Into Your Pillow The first and often easiest is if you can go grab a pillow in a separate room and scream as loud and as hard as you can into it. Let out that gut wrenching primal scream we all have inside of us.  Whether it be the adrenalin that begins coursing through your body or the release of the pent up energy, I find that I begin to quickly feel a lot better after this practice.  Breath of Fire The breathing technique known as Breath of Fire involves passive, normal inhalations and powerful, rapid exhalations. This style of forced exhalation may help reduce stress, boost brain function, and improve respiratory health. It’s also said to strengthen the abdominal muscles and improve digestion. How to do breath of fire Start in a seated cross-legged position. Sit up tall. Place your hands on your knees, palms facing upward. You can also place a hand on your belly to feel it rise as you breathe. Inhale through your nose, feeling your belly expand as you do so. Without pausing, exhale forcefully through your nose while contracting your abdominal muscles. Keep your inhales and exhales equal in length. Repeat until you’re comfortable with the pattern. Continue the rhythm, inhaling passively and exhaling forcefully. Repeat several times to practice. Now, speed up the inhales and exhales. Your exhales should be powerful and loud. Repeat for 30 seconds. Over time, you can try doing Breath of Fire for longer. Square Breathing This is a breathing technique you can practice anywhere in any position. I’ve recently spent several hours using this technique during a tattoo session. It worked wonders to keep me calm and help me manage the pain.  How to do square breathing Begin by slowly exhaling all of your air out. Then, gently inhale through your nose to a slow count of 4. Hold at the top of the breath for a count of 4. Then gently exhale through your mouth for a count of 4. At the bottom of the breath, pause and hold for the count of 4. Repeat You might want to set an intention, or invite a neutral or positive image to focus on during your breathing practice. Your intention could be “relaxation,” or “healing” -- whatever you find engaging and authentic for you. While breathing I focus on how my body physically feels. The air moving in and out of my nose, filling mu lungs, the tightness in my chest and belly when I have a full breath of air and the sensation of pulling my stomach towards my spine when I’m exhaling.  This is a wonderful technique to use to ground yourself and bring yourself out of your mind and into your body.    Mercury Retrograde Offers Opportunities For Growth When I have moments to spare, often during my commute, in the shower or before bed I like to revisit my day and see if there is any moments that stand out. This is particularly important to do during mercury retrograde when our challenges around communication, technology and travel comes to the surface.  Think back to moments when you were particularly challenged. These are opportunities for growth and evolution. Reflect on what triggered you and why. Next time you encounter a similar event it may be easier to look at it with empathy and softness.  I have found myself in many cycles that did not serve me.
