Lobelia Leaf

$3.50
Lobelia Leaf (Lobelia inflata), sometimes called Indian Tobacco or Asthma Weed, is a traditional North American herb with a long history in folk herbalism and spiritual practice. Its dried leaves are valued both for their historical herbal associations and for spell work involving release, protection, purification, freedom, and breaking unwanted habits or influences.
Traditional Herbal Uses
Historically, lobelia was used in herbal preparations connected with the respiratory system, particularly for coughs, bronchial complaints, asthma, and helping loosen mucus. It was also historically used as an emetic and antispasmodic. Modern evidence, however, is limited, and lobelia can cause significant adverse effects when swallowed.
Because lobelia contains active alkaloids including lobeline, internal use can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tremors, changes in heart rate and blood pressure, and more serious toxicity at higher amounts. It should not be treated as an everyday drinking herb or self-dosed medicinal tea.
Magical & Spell Uses
In modern folk magic and herbal spell work, lobelia is commonly associated with:
- Breaking habits and unwanted attachments
- Release and letting go
- Protection and purification
- Banishing unwanted influence
- Freedom and personal independence
- Cleansing ritual spaces
- Spell work intended to strengthen resolve or help someone move away from an unhealthy pattern
Dried lobelia may be added to spell jars, sachets, ritual powders, altar work, or burned in very small quantities as part of spiritual practice where appropriate ventilation is available.
