Conjure, hoodoo, rootwork - these are all names for southern American folk magic. Conjure first emerged in the days of slavery and plantations and is widely considered among the most potent forms of magic. Its popularity continues to increase, both in the United States and worldwide.

Featuring Casas's own rituals, spells, and home recipes, the book provides useful information suitable for novices and seasoned practitioners alike. In its pages, you'll learn about:
- Bone reading
- Candle burning
- Conjure bags
- Building your own conjure altar
At last, a book that answers every questions you had about Conjure but were afraid to ask! Old Style Conjure is an absolute treasure. It?s a must-read for every practitioner of the ancient arts and a must-have for every magical library! - Dorothy Morrison, author of Everyday Magic, The Craft and Utterly Wicked.
This definitive guide to Hoodoo plant magic contains detailed information on dozens of roots and herbs.
In Hoodoo Herbal, Starr Casas shares a lifetime of experience and family secrets in her usual plain-spoken, direct, and friendly style.
Mama Starr makes Hoodoo plant magic accessible to all. For example, snake plants (Dracaena trifasciata)—common houseplants that are readily available at garden stores and supermarkets—possess a long reputation for successfully keeping lying tongues from disrupting your home. As their leaves resemble a double-edged sword, they are believed able to cut through malicious works (spells) that may have been sent against you. They are valued for their anti-gossip properties.
The book features information about a wide variety of plants and how to use them, as well as practical tips regarding planting seeds, cutting, transplanting, and caring for plants so that they will care for you, too. Starr advises that as the plants thrive and grow, the works for which they are used will grow stronger, too—as will you.

The Gray Witch's Grimoire is a unique book. The world of the gray witch has been largely avoided, misrepresented, or glossed over with various books geared gingerly towards ‘protection magic’. These books, though informative and well written as they may be, have totally missed the spirit of the gray witch – who she really is, how she relates to the world of shadow and light, and exactly what she’s willing to do to stand her ground.
In our society ‘dark’ is automatically viewed as ‘evil’; and ‘light’ is automatically viewed as ‘good’. We’re expected to live completely within one realm and to totally avoid the other. This creates imbalance and is a great injustice to the true spirit of the ancient wise woman.
This book puts matters to right and gives the public a view of just what the gray witch is – and what she isn’t. The gray witch does not live in a world of chaos or unbridled black magic. She has a code of honour, a sense of propriety, and a relevance in today’s society.
The book has plenty of great details about the months of the year, touches on the use of hoodoo, and yet also touches on Hermetic magick and application. These subjects are very broad and would require their own book, but the author gives enough for the starting witch to get on with, and breaks it down in straight-forward language. This is indeed a path which is for people who are not of the fluffy-witch variety, or of the hard-core Chaosite/vampiric types, but it does carefully bridge the gap between the two.

A magical mystery tour of the extraordinary historical characters that have defined the unique spiritual landscape of New Orleans.
New Orleans has long been America’s most magical city, inhabited by a fascinating visible and invisible world, full of mysteries, known for its decadence and haunted by its spirits. If Salem, Massachusetts, is famous for its persecution of witches, New Orleans is celebrated for its embrace of the magical, mystical, and paranormal. New Orleans is acclaimed for its witches, ghosts, and vampires. Because of its unique history, New Orleans is the historical stronghold of traditional African religions and spirituality in the US. No other city worldwide is as associated with Vodou as New Orleans.
In her new book, author and scholar Denise Alvarado takes us on a magical tour of New Orleans. There is a mysterious spiritual underbelly hiding in plain sight in New Orleans, and in this book Alvarado shows us where it is and who the characters are. She tells where they come from and how they persist and manifest today. Witch Queens, Voodoo Spirits, and Hoodoo Saints shines a light on notable spirits and folk saints such as Papa Legba, Annie Christmas, Black Hawk, African-American culture hero Jean St. Malo, St. Expedite, plague saint Roch, and, of course, the mother and father of New Orleans Voudou, Marie Laveau and Doctor John Montenée. Witch Queens, Voodoo Spirits, and Hoodoo Saints serves as a secret history of New Orleans, revealing details even locals may not know.

An inspiring exploration of the goddesses of the West African spiritual traditions and their role in shaping Yoruba (Ifa), Santeria, Haitian Vodoun, and New Orleans Voodoo.
Throughout Africa and beyond in the diaspora caused by the slave trade, the divine feminine was revered in the forms of goddesses like the ancient Nana Buluku, water spirits like Yemaya, Oshun, and Mami Wata, and the warrior Oya. The power of these goddesses and spirit beings has taken root in the West. New Orleans, for example, is the home of Marie Laveau, who used her magical powers to become the "Voodoo Queen" of New Orleans.
Orishas, Goddesses, and Voodoo Queens shows you how to celebrate and cultivate the traits of these goddesses, drawing upon their strengths to empower your own life. In addition to offering a guided tour of the key goddesses of the African religious traditions, the book offers magical spells, rituals, potions, astrological correspondences, sacred offerings, and much more to help guide you on your own transformational journey.

"Working Conjure is a blessing. With the increasing commodification of African American and African Diasporic traditions, books about our practices that are simple, direct, and useful seem few and far between. Hoodoo Sen Moise manages to balance a solid delivery on the practice of Conjure with just enough theory to create a foundation to do this spiritual work—which is not, as he also reminds us, spiritual easy—and to continue the work given to us by our ancestors to heal each other and the world we share."—Mambo Chita Tann, author of Haitian Vodou
Conjure, also known as Hoodoo or Rootwork, is an old and powerful system of North American folk magic. Its roots derive primarily from West and Central African spiritual traditions but it developed during the slave trade and its purpose at that time was to help ease the terrible oppression experienced by the slaves. Working Conjure explores the history, culture, principles, fundamentals, and ethics of Conjure, while simultaneously serving as a practical how-to guide for actually doing the work.
Author Hoodoo Sen Moise has been a practitioner for nearly forty years. In Working Conjure, his first book, he shares the techniques and lessons that will bring Hoodoo alive to those who are new to the practice as well as useful and enlightening information for the adept. In the book he:
- Explores the primary materials used in Conjure
- Features spells, rituals, and workings for various purposes
- Guides readers to learn how to bring this profound school of magic to life
“Conjure,” writes Hoodoo Sen Moise, “is not a religion or spiritual path, per se, but rather magic/spiritual work that is done to bring about change in a situation. Whether that situation is a relationship, money, a job, revenge, healing, or cleansing, the fundamental tenet of Conjure is to do work that changes the circumstance.”
About the Author
Step into a gentle, nature-based spirituality with Scott Cunningham’s classic guide, “Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.” Cunningham presents Wicca not just as a system of magic, but as a deeply rooted Earth-oriented religion dedicated to the Goddess and the God.
In this book, you’ll find:
-
A clear and accessible overview of the foundations of Wicca — its worldview, ethics, and place in modern practice.
-
Practical instruction in ritual, magic, and sacred space: how to create your own altar, celebrate the Wheel of the Year, honour the deities, and integrate spirituality into everyday life.
-
Guidance especially for the solitary practitioner — those who walk the Wiccan path outside of covens or group structures — with encouragement, simplicity, and empowerment for personal practice.
-
Appendices and helpful tools: Cunningham’s own “Book of Shadows,” references to ritual supplies, periodicals, and how to ground your magical work in nature-connected life.
Why This Book Stands Out:
-
Beginner-friendly: Cunningham writes with clarity and warmth — making often complex spiritual or magical ideas accessible.
-
Earth-based & Practical: The focus is on living in harmony with nature, the cycles of the seasons, and the dual deities (Goddess and God) rather than purely abstract or sensational magic.
-
Solitary and Empowering: A strong resource for individuals who practice alone, who want a meaningful spiritual framework without needing to join a coven.
-
Balanced: It merges religion, magic, and daily living — not just spells, but a way of life.
Ideal For:

Anyone curious about Wicca and wanting a grounded first book.
-
Solitary practitioners seeking credible, well-written guidance.
-
Those drawn to nature-based spirituality and ritual rooted in the earth, seasons, and personal empowerment.
