Bull’s Eye – Ojo de Buey is traditionally the seed of the Mucuna sloanei plant, a tropical climbing vine native to parts of Africa, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Also commonly known as Deer’s Eye Seed, Hamburger Bean, Ox Eye Bean, or Lucky Eye Seed, it is recognized for its striking eye-like appearance and long-standing use as a protective talisman against negativity and the evil eye (mal de ojo).

Widely used in folk magic, protection work, and ancestral spiritual practices throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, Hoodoo, Espiritismo, and Afro-Caribbean traditions such as Santería/Ifá, Ojo de Buey has historically been carried to ward off jealousy, spiritual attacks, crossed conditions, and harmful intentions. In many traditions, it is worn on the body, placed near entrances, carried in mojo bags, or kept on altars to reflect negativity away from the wearer.

In Hoodoo and conjure traditions, Bull’s Eye is commonly worked into protection spells, uncrossing rituals, and reversal work. In Afro-Caribbean folk spirituality and related traditions, it may also be used near ancestor altars or spiritual shrines for grounding and energetic defense.
