How to Burn Copal Resin

Copal resin is typically burned using a charcoal disc in a heat-safe incense burner. First, light the charcoal disc until it begins to spark and fully ignite. Allow it to heat until the surface turns grey and ashy. Once ready, place a small piece of black copal resin on top of the charcoal. The resin will begin to melt and release aromatic smoke. Add more resin as needed throughout your working.

Because the smoke is strong and concentrated, it is best used in a well-ventilated space and always on a heat-resistant surface. A small amount is usually enough for most rituals.
