Elegua — known as Eshu in the Yoruba tradition — is the Orisha of crossroads, beginnings, and the opening and closing of paths. He is the first to be honored in any ceremony and the last to be thanked, the one who carries messages between the human and divine, and the keeper of all doors. Nothing moves without his permission.

This pure oil is formulated to honor and work with Elegua in petitions, offerings, altar dressing, and ritual work. Anoint candles, petition papers, your hands, or your threshold when calling on him to open roads, remove obstacles, bring opportunity, or guard against those who would block your way.

Working with Elegua

  • Road opening — petition Elegua to clear blocked paths and bring new opportunities forward
  • Crossroads work — bring decisions, new beginnings, and matters of direction to Elegua for clarity and movement
  • Protection — ask Elegua to guard your doors and keep enemies and obstacles at bay
  • Communication & messages — work with Elegua when seeking answers, opening lines of communication, or petitioning other Orishas
  • Candle dressing — anoint red and black candles (his colors) with this oil when working petitions in his honor
  • Altar offerings — use to dress his sacred items, coconut, or small figures kept at your door or crossroads altar

Traditional Offerings for Elegua

Elegua is honored with rum, cigars, candy, toys, and coconut. His colors are red and black. His number is 3. He is placed at the door or at the crossroads — always the first to receive and the first to be fed.

10ml glass rollerball. Handcrafted at Smudge.
